Letizia Battaglia, KunstKultureKafe, Nürnberg
Battaglia was married into the Sicilian Mafia, and started taking photographs after her divorce in 1971. Over more than 35 years, she had taken 600,000 images of life inside the mob, chronicling its ferocious history. Really has to be seen to be believed!

Film und Foto (FIFO) 80 year anniversary, Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart
A special re-introduction of a pioneering exhibition for experimental art, design and photography during the Da Da and Bauhaus eras, featuring work by Man Ray, Jan Tschiold, Alexander Rodchenko, El Lissitzky, Paul Outeridge and Willi Baumeister

Otto Dix, Kunstmuseum Sammlung, Stuttgart
I had never heard of Otto Dix before coming to Germany, but the Stuttgart city gallery has over 200 works be him. His quirky, grotesque illustrative style seemed fresh and new to me, though his work mostly chonicles the attrocities of the two world wars (Hitler had a great deal of his anti-war oil painting burnt, and denounced him of his lecturing post at Dresden University).
