"12 Prints"- Print Club Christmas Show

Just before Christmas, I submitted an entry for Print Club's "12 prints" Christmas exhibition, and I am happy to say that I made the cut! I was lucky enough to display my work along the likes of Pure Evil, Emily Forgot, Hennie Haworth and Yann Brien, and alongside the launch of Casper Williamson's brilliant book "Reinventing Screenprinting".

My piece was very much inspired by cycling, and the incredible and bizarre invention of the bicycle. I was also interested in the adoption of cycling between young professionals. The bike was originally a toy for the wealthy bright-young-things at the turn of the century, before becoming a accessible mode of transport for those who couldn't afford a car (or chose not to use a car). However, the "gentlemen" of the 21st century have actively chosen to use bicycles rather than cars (in the nineties, estate agents used to claim that if they were to arrive at a clients house with a bike, they wouldn't be taken seriously- only a power vehicle like an Audi or a BMW would suffice.) It reassures me that the idea of using a bike for transport and pleasure is crossing many more peoples minds, and outdated opinions on those who choose to cycle are being left behind.

I tried out some new products on this piece- the paper stock was Fabriano Rosapina Avorio from John Purcell in Brixton, and I invested in some Lascaux acrylics and seibdruckpaste from A P Fitzgerald near Bethnal Green. Not stuff I could afford to print with everyday (yet!), but my god, that ink is a joy to use! Doesn't stick, never dries in and just feels silky smooth every time you print!
