I have just returned from Germany after 9 weeks of WWOOFing (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) on two different farms, Kernmuhle in Rosstal, Bavaria and Kunst und Kaese Hof, Gorbitzhausen, Thuringen. Kunst und Kaese Hof (Art and Cheese Place) primarily made cheese from goats and sheep milk, but also included studios for a collection of artists (Rolf Huber, Heiko Surek and Sybille Suchy) with facilities for metalwork, wood sculpture, lithography and linocut, ceramic, mosaic and textile work.
K&K were nice enough to ask me and another WWOOFer, Jeanne, to create some design work for them whilst I lived on the farm, and one of the jobs was to create a signboard for the side of the main farmhouse. This design had to clearly include as many of the craft elements used on the farm as possible, and visually present that K&K is more than just a farm.
