International Postcard Exhibition- Bruges Bike Signage

I recently created a small edition of tiny screen prints for the International Postcard Exhibition 2013, currently showing at Surface Gallery in Nottingham. This looks like a really lovely show, displaying original work from new and established artists from all the UK and over the world. Feel free to pop in if you are in the area, the show is running from January 16th until February 2nd- most artwork will be on sale for just £15 each!

I decided to give my entries a hand-rendered touch, and tried to refrain from using a computer for this piece. So I created a hand cut paper stencil of a beautifully ornate sign for a cycle shop in Bruges, and used it for creating screen printed postcards. This was the first time that I had attempted to use black card in an exposure unit rather than tracing paper and ink or laserjet prints, and I was really impressed with the effectiveness of the solid black stencil. Will keep this in mind for future projects.

Over 30 cards were printed, using a colourful/metallic base layer, various paper stock and a solid Screentec Black finish. My three favourite pieces are on display in the exhibition.

Behind the Scenes of the Circus: Animaux Circus- Photoroll

OK, I'm not a professional photographer, but these photos should give an impression of the wealth of creative talent on show at this beautiful location. Sadly, this is one of the last shows at The Brick Box's old pub and stables set-up on Coldharbour Lane, Brixton (a hub for exciting events throughout last summer), but I will be keeping an eye on any future goings-on.

K&K Signboard- Production Stage

After a lot of sketching and draft-work, we decided to create a simple "cheese" symbol as the basis of the sign. The cheese would also feature a series of holes, bored through the timber structure, with icons inside to represent different elements of the Kunst & Kaese Hof project.


The right angle triangle will be held against the wall of the restaurant and kitchen using welded metal joints, so the wooden structure had to have a metal border attached to make these fittings possible.
